Show House — Architecture & Interior Design

The idea of the Kips Bay Show House— which has been raising money for the Boys & Girls Club for 50 years and is one of the premier design events of the year— is to present your work while leaning towards fantasy versus function. With the help of many friends, sponsors, and collaborators—including de Gournay Wallpaper, who rushed in a mural that hadn’t yet launched inspired by the home of Marlene Dietrich—we presented our vision of modern opulence, transforming a tiny former maids’ quarters into a luxurious boudoir space. For this project, time was of the essence. In record speed, we conceived a soft, dreamy marbled bathroom and custom plush seating area. For a touch of surprise glamour, we designed a hidden bar based on a vintage 1970s vanity. Sculptural and dramatic lighting by Apparatus and Ochre completed the inviting mood.

The custom steel and faux fur upholstered
bar was made by Construct BK, paired with
a stool by J.M. Szymanski.

Ochre Eucalyptus wall lights adorn the Viridian
painted walls, a limited edition color from
Benjamin Moore's Century collection.

The handmade de Gournay mural is a nod to a
painting by Charles Baskerville used my Elsie de Wolfe.

Studio DB was inspired by a vintage piece of
furniture and loved the idea of reinterpreting
it as bar and vanity combination.
